Gloomy
You like it when itâs gloomy. When the sun doesnât peek through the clouds but stays hidden.
I need sunshine to thrive; you do best when itâs cloudy and grey.
Itâs raining now. Summer rain. I smell it in the air. That unique fragrance is called petrichor, you let me know. The fresh aroma after a summer downpour; the combination of plant oils and some kind of chemical compound which is released from the soil. I love it.
I stand on the balcony. In the rain, head tilted back, arms outstretched. You, on the other hand, stand inside because youâve literally just taken a shower.
âYouâre crazy.â
I curl my fingers, then stretch them again. Feeling every drop. I smile. Itâs so warm and wet, and I love it. I look back at you, my hairâs damp and my white shirt almost see-through. I wipe my brow, then I reach out to you; you flinch.
âI donât think so!â you warn me as I chase you around the living room. On bare feet. Because who needs socks. âNo!â I love how you struggle. How you try to stay serious. I catch you by your shirt and draw you in. As soon as my arms wrap around your waist, you break into laughter. I hug you from behind, stilling you before you start to struggle like a fish out of water. When you do, I just squeeze you against me and lift you up.
âYou canât be serious!â you shout, still trying to squirm your way out of my grasp. Youâre not easy to carry. Youâre not a âtwink,â and you are not weak either. Still, I manage to carry you out onto the balcony and set you down.
In the rain.
You shove your hands at me playfully. âDamn you!â Another hard shove. I stand my ground and block the exit back into the apartment. And then, just because I can, I clasp the back of your neck and draw you in to kiss you.
Fervently. Leisurely.
I can taste the rain. And roasted almonds.
Your fingers grip my wet shirt, nearly wringing it; I smirk against your lips. âFuck ...â you whisper, and take my lips harder, faster, your hands try to get ahold of me. Kissing you has always been my favorite thing. Getting lost in my desire for you. In the feeling of our tongues roaming, our lips sliding together. I cradle your face in my hands.
In the rain.
Our kiss gets more heated as you pull me in, keeping me locked to you. I urge you forward until youâre standing with your back against the railing. I grip it on either side of you, curling my fingers around it.
By now youâre almost as wet as me. The rain comes down harder and I break the kiss, blinking through the downpour. I swipe my hair back and open my eyes to see you stare at me through your fogged-up glasses.
In the rain.
I bet you canât see anything, so I lift them up and place them on top of your wet hair.
